Education Through Bars

About Us

Education Through Bars (ETB) reaches through the bars of U.S. adult state and federal correctional facilities to provide free education to prisoners. ETB believes in the old correctional principle that people can change through education. ETB hopes to decrease recidivism and make communities safer by providing education to prisoners who, when released, will have a greater opportunity for success through legal means.

LEARNING to Reduce Recidivism A report on the importance of higher education in reducing recidivism

CALL FOR STATE-WIDE COORDINATORS:

We are looking for coordinators for each state in the U.S. If you are a professor with a Ph.D. and live in a state that we do not have a coordinator, please contact Dr. Robert Clark at rlclark(at)mansfield.edu . A State-Wide Coordinator's responsibility is to meet with the prisoner, their sponsor and members of their support network and report to us their thoughts and recommendations about and for the individual. The final requirement for a prisoner to be accepted into the program is approval from the coordinator.
